Prediction of stand development

Research project 1992-1999

The goal of the research project is to develop models for predicting the structure and development of forest stands and trees. Versatile modelling approaches are represented within the project, including the empirical growth and yield modelling, as well as process-based modelling. Considerable part of the research work within the project is carried out in cooperation with Finnish and foreign institutes and universities.

The major research topics within the project are

One of the main task of the project is to develop and update models for simulation of biological processes in the MELA System. The project is included in the research program "The Potential Uses of Timber Resources", in which MELA System is applied in the analyses of timber production possibilities on national level.
