Research project group: Distinct Authority Tasks

Objectives

The Finnish Forest Research Institute has been conducting pesticide inspection since 1976. In 2000 pesticide inspection was transferred from Vantaa Research Unit to Suonenjoki Research Unit. Pesticide inspections are performed under the GEP (Good Experimental Practice) standard to determine the usefulness and biological efficacy of the products intended for use in forestry (in Finland). The assessment of efficacy is mainly based on the results of field trials. Preliminary trials are performed in the laboratory or in the greenhouse. Approvals for pesticide registrations are made by Finnish Food Safety Authority according to EU Council Directive 91/414/EEC
