METLA Project 3019
Developing and supporting experimental activities
Duration: 1992-2000
Keywords: data collection, data managing, data processing, field work instructions, mapping, measuring instruments, measuring methods, stand characteristics, stem characteristics
Objectives
The project developes methods, means and equipment used and needed in experimental field work at the Finnish Forest Research Institute. The project manages an administrative database of about 7000 permanent experiments established and supported by the institute and develops data managing such as data collection, data transfer, data checking, data storage and basic calculations.
An important target is to facilitate the multiple use of data by eliminating the unnecessary variation in work methods and data. The included experiments need to be useful in the long term or for more than one research project.
The project is divided into seven sub projects. It organises training courses and seminaries. The project takes care of the common instruments, forms and other materials needed in field work as well as of the software used in data checking and basic calculations.
