Schmithüsen, F. 1995. Evolution of conservation policies and
their impact on forest policy development: the example of Switzerland.
Commonwealth Forestry Review 74(1): 45-50, 84-87 (In English)
Abstract: The paper considers a global perspective of
conservation and resources utilization, policies based on regulation
of use according to accessible potential, reinvestment for continued
productivity and preservation of irreplaceable values. Evolution
of relevant federal policies in Switzerland is reviewed with emphasis
on cross-sectoral conservation and forest policy programmes. The
relation between such programmes, social and political dimensions
of conservation, and new actors determining the various policy
processes are described. It is concluded that linkages between
different policy areas increasingly determine forest protection
and management, and are a central element of forest policy development
and analysis.
