Abstract: The article describes the present environmental organisations acting in Finland and evaluates their role in Finnish forest policy. The environmental organisations differ in their objectives and modes of action, and this has given rise to some disagreements as well as excellent collaboration in some issues. However, their influence over forest sector has been considerable increased in the 1990's. It depends on the skill of people engaged in forestry and the forest industry whether environmental organisations represent a threat or an opportunity to forest sector.
