Abstract: The overall aim of the seminar was to gain a
common understanding of the potential and the limits of national
forest programs (NFP) related to forestry and forest industries.
A secondary objective was to point out promising research needs
in the context of national policy planning and co-ordination related
to forests and forestry. Volume I consists of 17 seminar papers
focusing on theoretical considerations in connection with formulation
and implementation of NFPs. Furthermore, it summarises the main
arguments and the results of several workshops. Volume II contains
the country reports (16) describing the state of-the-art in formulation
and implementation of NFPs in different European countries. Volume
III has 10 papers on the implementation of NFPs in the South.
