Abstract: The publication consists of presentations and
outcomes of the NFP workshop organised by the MCPFE in Tulln,
Austria 13-14 September 1999. The overall aim of the seminar was
to work towards a common understanding of the concept of National
Forest Programmes (NFPs) - with special emphasis on the situation
in Europe - and to clarify possible tasks of the MCPFE. Six presentations
by invited speakers cover scientific, international, national
and sub-national experiences with NFPs. Three working groups were
held to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the concept of
NFPs, the suitability of IPF/IFF and FAO elements and basic principles
of NFPs in the pan-European region as well as approaches to multi-level
co-ordination of NFPs.
