Fixed term contract 1.9.2014 - 31.8.2016

The Finnish Forest Research Institute Metla announces an open researcher position for the period 1.9.2014-31.8.2016 at Eastern regional unit in Joensuu

The successful candidate will work in the ongoing research project (Winter in changing climate : effects of snow conditions on plants, soil and their interactions in the boreal forest) funded by the Academy of Finland and Metla. The project aims to find out how changes in the winter conditions will affect boreal forest plants, forest soil and plant-soil interactions. Laboratory experiment, where both above and belowground wintertime conditions are manipulated, will be carried out using special root growth chambers. Plant growth, C and N pools in plants and soil, gas exchange and microbial communities and activities will be monitored. The research team consists of scientists from Metla, Arctic Centre of University of Lapland, University of Oulu, Geological survey of Finland (GTK) and French national institute for agricultural research (INRA) .

The applicant is required to have researcher qualifications in plant ecology, physiology or comparable field (e .g., biology, forest sciences or biochemistry) with prior experience in laboratory work (basic knowledge in biochemical processes of plants is required). Integral parts of the task are partaking in maintaining the laboratory experiment, sample collection, laboratory analyses, data analyses and writing of scientific manuscripts. The applicant has to be able to work independently, as well as to be cooperative in international working group. Previous experience of working methods in root research and raot laboratory will be considered as an advantage for the applicant

Salary is based on the incentive system terms set by Metla, with a grade of 8 (2763,80 €/month). In addition, an incentive part of the salary is paid depending on the competence of the person.
