The Finnish Forest Research Institute (Metla) is a specialist research organisation which develops solutions to the challenges and questions posed by the care, utilisation, products, services and intangible value of forests.
Job description: The Finnish Forest Research Institute seeks a researcher for a three-year project "Vegetative
propagation - knowhow and technology for enhancing bioeconomy" funded by EU, European
Regional Developmental Fund. The position is placed at Eastern Unit, Punkaharju. The topics to be
worked with include testing the tissue culture propagation of Scots pine families producing decay
resistant heartwood, in vitro -selection and analyses of secondary compounds of tissue cultures,
together with developing knowhow on in vitro -testing of wood fungal resistance. Practical
laboratory work is part of the job. The position is suitable also for a PhD student.
Position is fixed term on period 01.11.2011 - 10.07.2014.
The applicants should:
- Have a MSc degree
- Have knowledge of plant biology / tissue culture and microbiology / biochemistry
- Be a team worker with collaborative skills and attitude
- Be fluent in written and spoken English

- Ability for innovative and interdisciplinary thinking
Salary is based on the incentive system terms set by Metla, with a grade of 7-8 (2470,57-2661,70
€/month) depending on the competence of the person. In addition, an incentive part of the salary is
paid.
