The mission of Finnish Forest Research Institute (Metla) is to build the future of the forest sector of Finland by producing and disseminating information and know-how for the well-being of society.

Finnish Forest Research Institute, Suonenjoki Research Unit is looking to hire a post doc researcher will work in the Academy of Finland -funded research project 'Adaptability of silver birch (Betula pendula Roth) to global warming and changing water regime in future climate'. The duties of the selected post doc -researcher include: planning and realization of the field studies and exposure studies (increasing temperature, changing water availability); application and development of relevant research methods in the studies; analysis and scientific reporting of the results; and presentations of the work and the results. The researcher is expected to participate in supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate theses works.

The post doc researcher position will be employed from the beginning of February 2010 to the end of January 2013.

The applicant is required to have a PhD diploma in the field of plant biology / forest sciences / molecular biology. Knowledge and experiences in applying methods of ecophysiology and molecular biology are regarded as benefits. The work requires capability to apply new research methods and to supervise theses works, capability for team work and work co-ordination and flexibility in regard to working times and different working sites. Driving license is needed for travelling between sites of research.

Salary is based on the incentive system terms set by Metla, with grade 7-8 (2405,63-2587,31 €/month) for a post doc researcher depending on the competence of the person. In addition, an incentive part of the salary is paid, which may at the maximum be 50 % of the salary level.
