The mission of Finnish Forest Research Institute (Metla) is to build the future of the forest sector of Finland by producing and disseminating information and know-how for the well-being of society.

Finnish Forest Research Institute, Rovaniemi Research Unit is looking to hire a researcher to a project funded by Academy of Finland that investigates the effects of grazing and global change on soil carbon balance at terrestrial tundra ecosystems. This is a graduate student position. Post-graduate studies can be studied either in Finnish universities or in the University of Nottingham, England.

The researcher position will be employed from the beginning of December 2009 to the end of July 2014.

The applicant is required to have a university degree (MSc) on plant ecology or biology, to be ready for conducting field work in northern Fennoscandian tundra, and to be willing to prepare a doctoral thesis on the research subject. The applicant is required to have good writing skills in English.

The salary is based on the UPJ salary system, where salary consists of two components: job-specific salary component, which depents on the demand level and the qualifications of the applicant, and personal salary component based on performance. This job will be classified between demand levels 6-7, where salary is 2223.96 - 2405.63 € per month. This will be added whit personal salary component, which is max 46 % of the job-specific salary component.
