Business Economics Researcher

The mission of Finnish Forest Research Institute (Metla) is to build the future of the forest sector of Finland by producing and disseminating information and know-how for the well-being of society.

Metla’s Joensuu Research Unit is offering a permanent position as
Business Economics Researcher
in the research field of forest based products in climate change.

The major research duties are in business economics research projects focusing on the identification of competitive advantages for wood products and related value chains through durability, cascad­ing and carbon sequestration properties. Other research duties will include analysis of policies related to wood product carbon seques­tration by application of models to measure the substitution and in­come impacts from the use of wood modules and components in house construction. Research issues related to innovation and entre­preneurship policies as well as the carbon certification potential will be covered. The research tasks are integrated into Metla’s research programmes: 1) Cost Efficient Procurement, and 2) Utilization of Roundwood and Functioning of Forest Ecosystems and Use of For­est Resources in Changing Climate (www.metla.fi/tutkimus/index-en.htm).

The applicant should hold a DSc, PhD or MSc degree in environ­mental economics or other appropriate research disciplines, and have a proven track record of research in business economics. Ex­perience in the value chain approach of forest economics research is appreciated. The applicant should have fluent English language skills and skills and interests for communication, networking and reporting in international scientific communities.

The application should include: an application letter (covering scientific background and demonstrating proven interest in one or more of the research disciplines mentioned above), a CV, a list of publications, and contact information for two referees, and salary expectations. The salary consists of two parts: the fixed sal­ary depending on qualifications and experience, and an additional part depending on the personal performance of the applicant. The successful candidate is expected to start in the post on 1 September 2008.
