Ph.D. Student

A post for a PhD student is open for 4 years starting January 01, 2009 at the Finnish Forest Research Institute(Metla), Joensuu Unit. The project titled ‘Tree responses to soil frost and flooding in changing climate’ is funded by the Academy of Finland.

The position is for preparing a Ph.D. degree at the Faculty of Forest Sciences, University of Joensuu. The topic of the thesis is the role of different mycorrhizas in the freezing and flooding tolerance of trees, and the effects of freezing and flooding on the community structure of mycorrhiza-forming fungi.

The applicant should have a M.Sc. degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field. Good knowledge of English is required, as well as co-operation and communication skills.

The salary will be 2100-2500€/month depending on experience and qualifications.
