Forest as visual screen

I am looking for quantitative information on visual screening provided
by forests. For example, what depth of forest is needed to screen, say,
a dwelling from view from a road? I realize this depends upon many
factors, but perhaps some guidelines have been worked out. Thank you for
any information or sugggestions you may be able to provide.
