Annual Salary $42,901 - 53,731
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
* To develop decision support systems to improve the quality and
efficiency of silvicultural operations in Australian timber plantations in
with particular emphasis in Queensland. This is a temporary position funded
by the Cooperative Research Centre for Sustainable Production Forestry.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Analyse and review the current state of knowledge on silvicultural
decision support systems (DSS) through literature review and survey of
forest management organisations.
* Determine the requirements of major operational users of
silvicultural DSS.
* Identify the information required for the development of DSS to meet
the needs of operational users, collate currently available information for
system development and identify gaps in research data.
* Develop computer-based decision support systems to assist in
silvicultural decision making.
* Contribute to the development of models of eucalypt forest growth
and yield.
* Maintain a high level of knowledge of current research in plantation
silviculture of native and exotic species.
* Communicate and collaborate with other groups within the QFRI,
DPI-Forestry, other parts of DPI and external institutions to effectively
achieve research outcomes.
* Contribute positively to the scientific and professional activities
of the QFRI.
MANDATORY QUALIFICATION
Degree or equivalent tertiary qualifications relevant to forest science,
mathematics or information technology.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
SC 1 Experience, knowledge, and demonstrated scientific achievement in
computer modelling, decision support systems or a related research area.
SC 2 Knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of,
concepts and methodologies for scientific investigation in silviculture and
plantation forest ecology.
SC 3 Demonstrated high level of innovation, analytical thinking, and
problem solving skills.
SC 4 Demonstrated effective writing and reporting skills.
SC 5 High-level interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with
operational and scientific staff.
