Wildlife Ecologist
Vegreville, Alberta

Our Forest Resources Business Unit located at Vegreville, is Alberta's
leader in operational and applied research and technology development in
adaptive management systems and sustainable forest management.

We seek a qualified Ecologist to conduct applied research on an
interdisciplinary project as part of an overall goal to better understand
how forest succession, forest structure, and wildlife recovery are related
to silviculture practices.

As Wildlife Ecologist, you will be responsible for planning components of
the research project and, during the field season, will organize and set up
field camps.  You will also co-ordinate and supervise data collection,
participate in interviews to select new field staff, ensure field data is
collected to the highest standards, establish work priorities and schedules
for field staff, analyze data, write reports and scientific papers and keep
abreast of related projects being conducted at other organizations.

Candidates require an M. Sc. (preferably Ph. D.) in Wildlife Biology, plant
ecology or a related field, at least 3 years of field research experience,
knowledge of ecological theory, landscape ecology, conservation biology,
wildlife biology, community ecology and forest ecology.  You should also
have the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in remote
field camps, computer knowledge (data base applications, statistical
applications, word processing and file organization) and a valid driver's
license.  Four-wheel drive trucks and quads will be used extensively and,
on occasion, airplanes and helicopters.  For more information contact Dr.
