The position is based in Melbourne, Australia. Duties: Provide expert advice and analysis of forest resource information, modelling of natural systems, and forecasting and monitoring of sustainable yields. Participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary unit evaluating and monitoring sustainable forest management practices, undertaking yield regulation and providing forest information. Interpret and analyse complex forest resource information using mathematical modelling, planning and information systems. Collate and assemble authoritative data and information for use in evaluation of forest management policy options and forecasting of sustainable yields. Analyse forest management policy and sustainable yield options using advance forest management systems. Prepare scientific reports on forest resource information. Qualifications – Desirable: Sound understanding of forest management methodologies and their application to natural resource assessment, forest management planning and yield regulation. Demonstrable skills in mathematical analysis. Experience in the modelling of natural systems with emphasis on the management of native forests. Experience in the use of computerised systems for forest modelling and management, resource estimation and yield regulation. Ability to collate and use forest information and data sets for monitoring of forest management activities, provision of advice for policy development and maintenance of forest data standards. Demonstrated ability in working under limited supervision and in multi-disciplinary project teams investigating natural resources issues. Good communication (both written and oral) and interpersonal skills.
