Someone mentioned poplars giving up to 40 tpa and I'm aware that beyond trees, the grass Miscanthus may outyield these. Eric: To obtain my Forest Degree in Chile I did an evaluation of the development of Acacia melanoxylon in some sites of the IX and X regions of the country, describing their environmental condition. Finally I carried out relations cause-effect between these and the growth rate of blackwoods. In some sites it was possible to find stands with poor management growing higher than 33 m3/ha/year, showing after 34 years an average diameter of 45cm and some trees with +70cm. If you prefer, you can convert that growing-rate in volume to mass. I think you can use: 1 m3 = 1.0/1.3 ton (growing) Finally, I recomend you to contact the Forest Institute of Chile (they have a very complet data of growing-rate under different conditions in the country) Juan Pablo Cerda Forest Engineer Vancouver, Canada jpcerda@conama.cl jpcerda98@yahoo.com _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!?
