Perhaps you didn't notice that we have nearly doubled the amount of land in parks and wilderness over the past six years. What do you call the forests in Carmanah, Walbran, Clayoquot, Tsitika, Stein, Kitlope, Khutzamateen, Lillooet, Squamish, South Moresby, Northern Rockies etc. etc that have recently been made into parks? The Kitlope alone is over 300,000 hectares, hardly minuscule. There are about 7.9 million hectares of coastal forest in BC. 2.2 million ha have been logged to date, nearly all of which is reforested with 0-100 year old second growth. There are about 2 million hectares of coastal forest left to be logged that are designated merchantable, accessible, and available. About 3 million hectares of coastal forest are either non-merchantable or in-accessible and the other 700,000 hectares are in parks and therefore not available. Why do you want the commercial forest land to "return to old growth between harvestings"? There is no evidence of species loss in BC forests. Perhaps you would like to see all the land that has been cleared for farms and cities returned to old growth as well? Perhaps we could begin with your place. By the way, your insults and those of your fellow travellers, Sylvia, Bret and David, are water off a thick-skinned ducks back so you might as well kick your dog instead. It seems that everyone associated with the forest industry is either an evil, greedy boss or a spineless flunky doing the bidding of the evil bosses. Oh, I forgot, you forgive the hard working people because they need to make a living and the only way they can is by doing what the evil bosses say even though they know they are destroying the planet. Did I get that right? Cheers Patrick Moore, Greenspirit http://www.greenspirit.com May the Forest be With You Snail Mail: 4068 West 32nd Avenue Vancouver, B.C.
