David; I didn't make the original post, but the statement that you are uninformed is supported by your posts, including: 1) that blueberries are N fixing legumes, and 2) that clearcutting depauperates forest ecosystems of nutrients. I thought you might know something about blueberries that I didn't. I was certain that they are not legumes since their flowering and seeding don't bear any resemblance to legumes, and taxonomists key in on those features in classifying plants. And, as far as I can tell, they serve no role in N fixation. I welcome your posts and your opinions. I don't expect to agree with everything you say, but please don't take it too hard when you are taken to task to support your statements with something more than just your opinion. Indeed, if you do send me information showing that clearcutting removes the bulk of nutrients from a particular forest type and depauperates it (such that it won't grow trees as fast as it did before), I will use that in my teaching in the future, and thank you for the information. This is a subject that I am studying, and I want all available information. I've sent you and the list information that clearcutting doesn't depauperate the soil, at least in the Pacific Northwest Douglas-fir forests that were studied.
