In response to Mrs.De Rooy and Mr. Moola's arguments on chemicals I think that they are not focusing on the chemicals used in forestry. The chemicals used in commercial pine mgt. (in the Southeast) are for the most part used to control competeing vegitation. These chemicals are not taken out into a hardwood bottom and just sprayed. There are a lot of key choices that must be made before spraying. And in many cases the person spraying the chemical must be certified. I find the constant bashing of all chemicals will lead to more government regulation of this country and that is not what we need, I mean look at what has happened in the Pacific Northwest. If we keep looking at all the bad chemicals do and never focus on the good ones we will be in trouble in the near future. I know that there are many "bad" chemicals out there and we should work to get those replaced with better chemicals, that are not as harmful. One thing that many people don't remember is that many of the chemicals used in the backyard are much more dangerous than the ones used in forestry. I feel that the Foresters of today have done very well in developing chemicals that are not as toxic as the ones used in Agriculture.
