I am starting my masters research this summer on howler monkey behavioral ecology in relation to tropical forest fragement regeneration in Belize and I need to develop a methodology for quantifying disturbance levels of territories. So far, I have some basic ideas including degree of open canopy, dominance of forest edges, census surveys (dbh, spp. identification)--I am not, however, well versed in any of this! I have a more extensive background in animal ecology and now have to "close the loop" in my botany skills in order to be an effective conservation biologist. So, any advice that can be offered is greatly appreciated. I am also very interested in the possibility of using remotely sensed data with GIS--I saw images in Guatemala of infrared disturbance levels/ forest composition changes and have been trying to find out more about this ever since. Does anyone know how to locate the appropriate satellite images for this/ where to begin ? Thanks ahead of time for your help, Amy Rogers Dept. of Biology San Francisco State University 1600 Holloway Ave. San Francisco, CA 94132 USA email: arogers@sfsu.edu
