In response to Mr. McCandlish's view on artificial vs natural regeneration I don't think he understands the nature of the terms. The term "artificial" does not mean that a stand of trees are created by man and that nature and the environment have nothing to do with it. It simply means that the act of regenerating a stand skips a few steps of natural secondary succession. This is the part that makes this regeneration method "artificial". Where as natural regeneration is done by nature itself, that is the stand is reestablished by the surounding trees and man does little to influence the succession of the stand.
