You write: >The palm tree has more uses than I had imagined, and many of them seem to >associated with Western Society uses, rather than native uses Tom, have you ever been to the Pacific Islands? If you went there you would see that the "native" people use palms and other trees for a million things. Which of the uses I pointed out strike you as "Western Society"? > I'm still interested in scientifically substantiating your editorial claim, which you haven't done. I have no idea what you mean by this. Easter Island is an exception in the Polynesian culture, and the deforestation occurred quite early there. Most of the Polynesian and Melanesian island cultures have developed sustainable use of trees. My point is that these cultures have figured out how to use trees without destroying all of them. The Sierra Club policy of zero forestry on public lands is in my humble opinion, ludicrous. I tried in my article to project a sense of balance, something many native cultures have also achieved.
