Spruce regeneration

Dear members of the list,

I'm working on the regeneration of mountainous spruce forest in the
northern Alps. During the last summer, I've taken numerous samples of humus
in order to show some possible correlation (+ or -) between the presence of
seedlings and some physical and chemical parameters of these various type
of humus (from hydromull to mor forms).

I want to do the following analysis:
        - Density
        - pH water, pH KCl
        - Ca, Na, Mg, K, P
        - Al, H
        - C, N

I wish I could have your opinion on these parameters. Shall I do some
complementary analysis or are these ones enough ?

Furthermore, I'd like to observed, during the next vegetative season, the
variations of temperature (at - 10 cm, 0 cm and + 10 cm from humus surface)
and humus moisture.

I'm looking for information concerning methodology, materials, ... I'll
have to choose. Can anybody help me with one's advice ?
