USFS ECOLOGIST SAYS LAWS WERE BROKEN: Forest Service Regional Ecologist Reggie Fletcher said environmental damage caused by the Nicole Salvage Sale on the Santa Fe National Forest was the worst he had seen since the early 1970s and believes the sale had "serious violations" of the Clean Water Act and other major environmental laws reports the Albuquerque Journal. Fletcher's concerns, expressed in a interagency memo, has triggered a formal review of the logged timber sale. Claiming that all laws and standards were followed, fellow USFS employee District Ranger John Peterson claimed, "What Reggie wants to do is raise the standard of how timber sales are done to make them more acceptable to the public. To me, the sale looks good."
