Dear Forumite, I am interessed to know about your personnal experiences on the utilization of Stand density management diagrams (SDMDs) for forest thinning. All the litterature I have in hand talks about the development of SDMDs and their possible use for thinning prescription. Unfortunately, I have no info on the next step,i.e. the validation of this tool in real situations. I am looking some feedback from silviculturists (researchers and practicians) who tried this approach. Does it work? Is it usefull? What are the possible improvements that can be done on that tool? On my own experience, I found that the use of a log-log graphic was very aesthetic, but not very practical, when I tried to read density on the X axis. I rather use a log graphic, keeping density on a linear axis, a modification that simplified the utilization of SDMD for commercial thinning prescriptions. This message is in some way a reaction to the very pertinent comments on members of this forum on the lack of scientific stuff. Please consider this mail as my modest contribution... Best regards to all...
