Guillaume's posting was FUNNY... and I too can relate to the frustration... Having said that, I don't think that another list is a solution. WHAT IS LACKING here is a "research" and technical postings. They are missing because they are not been submitted, NOT because they could not squeeze themselves into the bandwidth due to too much traffic. THEY WILL BE LACKING in any subgroup of this group notwithstanding its selection. WHAT IS REDUNDANTLY ABUNDANT are postings of individuals who might be unfit to group discussions, but are free to sign on to any "list". THEY WILL BE PRESENT IN OTHER LISTS; clearly the original title and purpose of this groups, i.e., "forest RESEARCH", have not prevented them from joining, or should I say claiming, this list. Furthermore, these people are not really undesirable. It is their acting in a certain way that is undesirable, e.g., personal attacks. Acting can be controlled by the "list" policies. The organization and technical support in this "list" is excellent, the policies are very good and the list owner's balance, patients and decisiveness are exemplary. The list owner has just introduced some VERY promising changes to the policies of this list. A few more changes, e.g., outlawing personal attacks, might make even further improvement. In the meantime, the best way to keep this fire down is too stop adding fuel to it. Remember the saying? "You can fight with a pig and you will all get dirty, but only the pig will enjoy it." Here in addition hundreds of people get tired out and frustrated with the fightings. So stop it.
