Gentlemen, please! Can we use this list for its intended purpose, and not for name-calling. We should all be aware that the list provides an important channel for communication across disciplines, cultures, values, etc, and precisely because it does this, we have to be sensitive to the opinions and values of others. The current debate seems to arise from a cultural matter, not from a substantive difference of opinion on forest fires or copyright. In the "west", it is common to illustrate a point by using somebody as an example, and the "victim" does not get offended. In the "east", it is exceedingly impolite to humiliate somebody by embarrassing them in public. Let us all be aware of the sensitivities of others and try to provide feedback in an appropriate form (perhaps privately rather than via the list). Conversely, we should try not to get offended if one person's cultural norms differ from our own. Can we now get back to forestry, please.... Thanks Jerry :)
