I would like to make the following observation on the Indonesian fire situation besides copyright discussion. I have heard many times "that forest industries have the cut and run mentality" and point to Indonesia among other areas where the companies are performing this action. If this is true, than why were these companies (which have been implicated, yet not convicted in a court of law) using prescribe burning to clear the land presumably for planting back tree plantations. Would not one of the main arguements of a cut and run mentality be that corporations only cut the timber and then do not spend any money (prescribe burning does cost money) to regenerate the site? Would anyone like to wager that these Indonesian fires will be used against timber industy not to disprove of the cut and run mentality, but for some other negative means? mark
