Dear Stewart, This list functions best precisely when people from around the world > share both their opinions >and< good documentary evidence to back them > up ... and it does not matter who requests clarification or the > supporting evidence. When you put the information out on the list all of > us see and benefit from it. Well said. This is especially true of those who complained about the lack of scientific discussions on the list. If you don't contribute any, you don't get any. There's no point in lamenting the presence of NGOs & 'greenies' hogging the list, if you choose to remain silent. As one representing the forest/timber product trade, as all of you are aware that I've had my share of duels with these NGOs - notably - Bret Diamond. But to say 'let's kick this guy out of this list' or 'let's start another list' is not the wisest thing nor in the best interest for forestry science or the forest products trade. Like it or not, we need these people around to provide a measure of checks & balances. As for Patrick Moore, likewise, as a founding member of Greenpeace, who saw it through its infancy, could provide some measure of insight for NGOs. I take comfort in having folks like Patrick Moore around. He's not an eco-Judas as some would like to make it out to be. I too, take comfort in having Bret Diamond around. You may have noticed that I've stopped responding to his postings. I don't need to. My only fear is 'what if he is right?' One thing is certain - if there aren't any forests left, there will be no forestry science, no timber trade, no 'green' causes to fight. And certainly, JS is doing a good job as the Forest List-owner. I know I'm giving him a hard time. Likewise, I want him to know he also giving me a hard time. JS I hope you are reading this. In life there're those who make things happen, there're those who watch things happen, and there're those who wonder what happen! The same can be said of us all on this List. God bless.
