Any of us regularly reading this list often see very general statements made to advocate a particular point of view. It is only proper to question whether supporting evidence has been omitted simply for the sake of brevity, or whether the author is making an unsupported allegation. There is a recent good example which can be drawn from another thread in the Forest List. The assertion was made that most of the tropical forest fires burning out of control were started by large corporate interests. How can one begin to judge the truth behind the allegation until names are named and the relative amount of acreage being cut and burned by corporate interests as opposed to subsistence farmers is given? This list functions best precisely when people from around the world share both their opinions >and< good documentary evidence to back them up ... and it does not matter who requests clarification or the supporting evidence. When you put the information out on the list all of us see and benefit from it. Stewart -- # ================================================= # | | | Dr. Stewart I.
