Re the debate over copyright, Reuters, and forest fires.
One thing that needs clarifying is that Reuters is unlike magazines and
newsletters - the value of its information is based in the news it
transmits to subscribers.  Therefore Reuters is historically (extremely)
vigilant about guarding the copyright of its news.  You could say it is
very particular about finding out and stamping out any unauthorised use
of its copy.  Therefore the listserv manager was correct in protecting
the list from potential problems of this kind.
This is apart from the debate over the rights and wrongs re fires etc.
