Last May we sent out letters and a questionnaire to all Ministries of Forestries around the world doing a survey of what countries were conducting Multipurpose Resource Inventories. We also sent out a notice to various nets on the internet. People were to indicate if they were using MRI or not and if so to provide some additional information. We have had very good response. So far we have heard from AFRICA - Madagascar, Morocco, Mozambique, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zimbabwe; OCEANA and ASIA:, Australia, Bhutan, Cambodia, Malaysia, Maldives, Papua New Guinea, Thailand, Western Samoa; EUROPE: Austia, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Turkey, United Kingdom; LATIN AMERICA - Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Equador, Mexico, Montseerat, Trinadad & Tobago, Uruguay; MIDDLE EAST: Bahrain, United Arab Emirates; NORTH AMERICA - Canada and USA. Positive or negative responses were due to me at EFI by 1 July. Our thanks to each of the above countries for taking the time to respond! As you will note we are still missing responses from a good number of countries. If you have contact with those that are responsible for inventories in these other countries, we would appreciate your encouraging them to complete and return the questionnaire by 15 SEPTEMBER 1997. Our letter and the questionnaire may be found at http://www.efi.joensuu.fi/projects/mri.questionnaire.html Please forward this request as you thing appropriate. Thanks in advance for your kind assistance. Gyde H. Gyde Lund European Forest Institute Torikatu 34 FIN 80100 Joensuu, Finland Tel: 358 13 252 0241 Fax: 358 13 124 393 Email: gyde.lund@efi.joensuu.fi
