A comment on David South's figures on population growth in Europe. ___________ Just a short comment on the zero-population growth argument coming again and again on this list: It is important to bear in mind, that demographics are changing due to a higher life expectancy --> "population growth"(?) and considerable movements within the European states (immigration --> "population growth" (?)). A couple of states you have listed (and did not list) surely fall in the category of excellent health care and notable immigration. Both, I believe, can be considered positive and lead directly and indirectly to growth. I do not believe that the ZPG argument considered state per state (or country) leads anywhere - we have only got one world - which we should try to use more efficiently and with care. Yours, James As usual: All ideas and porsitions are mine and only mine, not of any institution I am affiliated to .... etc. ______________________________________________________________________ James Nikolaus Hogg Universitaet fuer Bodenkultur (University of Agriculture, Forestry and Renewable Natural Resources) Abteilung Rechnungswesen der Forst- und Holzwirtschaft (Division for Accounting at the Institute of Forest Economics) Gregor Mendel Strasse 33 A-1180 WIEN Oesterreich/Austria Europe Tel. +43 - 1 - 47654 - 4422 Fax. +43 - 1 - 47654 - 4429 E-mail: hogg@mail.boku.ac.at http://www.boku.ac.at/rwfh/ ______________________________________________________________________
