Early Alert for GIS/Biometrics Position
The USDA Forest Service and Mead Paper Corporation are cooperating on a
study of the integration of Geographic Information Systems and forest
sampling. The Northeastern Forest Experiment Station laboratory in
Delaware, OH (just north of Columbus) is seeking to fill a 12-18 month
temporary position to oversee the study. The primary duties would be:
1) initial planning analysis, 2) day-to-day responsibility for
oversight of the field work, 3) oversight and/or development of GIS
layers, 4) analysis of the inventory data, 5) development of models
to relate the inventory data and GIS layers, and 6) writeup of the
results. It is an excellent opportunity to gain experience both in
research and with forest industry in a practical application.
Candidates must either have good GIS or good forest inventory and
analysis skills -- undergraduate degree required. Other desirable
qualities include a statistical background, SAS, Systat, or S-Plus
training, leadership skills, and a desire to conduct research. Chip
Scott will oversee the inventory design and analysis, and Louis
Iverson will oversee the GIS and spatial analysis portion of the study.
The study itself will be conducted in Southeast Ohio on Mead's 100,000+
acre holdings. The position will hopefully start in early August.
This position is with the United States federal government, and
applicants must be citizens of the USA. Contact Chip Scott for further
information.
