Minirhizotron users

Good day all,

My name is Gilles Robitaille a reserch scientist working for the Canadian
Forest Service at the Laurentian Forestry Center, Ste-Foy Quebec. I am in
the process of acquiring the minirhizotron technology and I would very much
like to correspond with fellow minirhizotron users. To do this I would like
to build a personal list of researchers that are using this technology. So
if you are inclined please respond with your coordinates and an optional
description of your research activities in this field. I'll be more than
happy to have your names so that I can do some initial brainpicking!

Research interest with minirhizotron:

At our center we have a group of researchers who want to describe 'site
quality' or 'site index' on the basis of ecophysiological parameters. Above
and below ground net primary productivity(NPP) need to be determined. I'll
be looking at the below ground productivity coupled with soil and root
respiration and thus also get a handle on carbon cycling for our model
systems. The forests of interest are balsam fir, sugar maple, and black
spruce. The study sites are located on a north-south climatic gradient and
on rich and poor sites. We also want to estimate NPP based on our
ecophysiological measurements by applying a modification of Forest-BGC
model of Running. Other models will probably be looked at as well. We also
want to be able to upscale to NPP determinations using satelite imagary.

Cheers

Gilles Robitaille
