WORKSHOP ANNOUNCEMENT
Forestry, Forest Products and Energy: Greening the Greenhouse
Date: 30 May 1997
Location: Vancouver/Canada
Westin Bayshore Hotel
1601 West Georgia Street, Vancouver, British Columbia V6G 2V4
The scope of this workshop relates to fully integrated forest operations -
with bioenergy as the end point and co-product. In Canada, for example,
energy self-sufficiency within the forest industry is a major goal, and most
forest bioenergy schemes are associated with co-generation. The workshop
aims at presenting work on greenhouse-gas balances of such forest-based
bioenergy systems.
Planned presentations:
- Recent developments regarding renewable energy in Canada
- Carbon budget update for Canada
- Forest and bioenergy mitigation options: the issue of credits and debits
- Large-scale biomass for power generation / or / large-scale forestry for C
sequestration
- Report from the climate change task force of the Canadian Pulp and Paper
Assoc.
- Using the model GORCAM for sensitivity analyses of carbon sequestration in
forestry projects
- Recent development of the forest carbon balance in Finland
- Standard methodology for greenhouse gas balances of bioenergy systems in
comparison with fossil energy systems
- Future production and utilization of biomass in Sweden: potentials and CO2
mitigation
- Wood construction alternatives in Finland: carbon sink and substitution of
energy intensive materials.
This workshop is organized within the International Energy Agency's RD&D
Program on Bioenergy (IEA Bioenergy), Task XV ("Greenhouse Gas Balances of
Bioenergy System").
