Call for Papers, Posters and Presentations for

International Value-Added Wood Processing Conference
November 13-14th, 1997
Waterfront Centre Hotel
Vancouver, British Columbia

The Centre for Advanced Wood Processing at the University of British
Columbia, Vancouver, BC, Canada and Swiss School of Engineering for the
Timber Industry, Biel, Switzerland are organizing this conference. The
First International Value-Added Wood Processing (IVAWP) Conference will
be held in Vancouver, BC on the 13th and 14th of November, 1997. This
international conference will be held annually, alternating between
Europe and North America. The forum will provide leading practitioners
and researchers to present and discuss information related increasing
the economic and social value of wood products from our forest
resources.

Conference Topics:

· Value-Added Sawmilling
· Secondary Manufacturing, including Cabinet and Furniture manufacturing
· Production Planning and Control
· Quality Assurance and Management
· New Products and Markets
· Computer-Aided Design and Manufacturing


Deadline:
The deadline for presentations, papers and posters will be on 30 June
1997. Notification of accepted papers will be sent in July 1997.

Rooms are available for conference participants and attendees at the
Waterfront Centre Hotel for $140 CDN, single or double, per night.
Vancouver hotels fill up quickly, so book early if you plan to attend!

Pre-Conference Tours:
The UBC campus is home to several research institutions dedicated to
wood products including Forintek Canada, UBC Faculties Wood Science and
Mechanical Engineering, and Canada’s National Mechanical Engineering,
and Canada’s National Machinery Research Institute. The Greater
Vancouver area also has BC Wood Skills Centre in Abbortsford. A
pre-conference industry tour will be arranged for those participants
interested in learning more about the forest industry in British
Columbia. Contact the conference assistant for more details about the
tours.
