Hi !
I recently read a paper on Quality thinning (" Thinning alternatives in
first thinning of pine " by Risto Lilleberg), a type of thinning that is
used in Finland and in Sweden.
My questions are :
(1) What is quality thinning ? How is it different from thinning from
below and from above (i.e crown thinning) ?
(2) What are the characteristics of stands susceptible to be " quality
thinned " (age, density, dominant height)
(3) What is the target density and diameter structure after quality
thinning ?
(4) Is it a treatment commonly used in Sweden and Finland or is it
experimental stuff ?
Thanks in advance ! !
