        One of my favourite little pests this Choristoneura fumiferana!  I
assume you have sorted throught he small libraries of publications on this
beasty and found "Managing trees and stands susceptible to western spruce
budworm"  USDA-FS Coop State Res. Service Tech Bull. # 1695 of 1985?

Hope the ref helps.  The big question is, how does forest management change
an insect's status so that it becomes a huge killer of trees rather than a
(moderated) member of the natural folivores?
