Top Dying of Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.)

Dear List members

I am currently involved in a project investigating the Top Dying of Norway
spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) and I would appreciate any information,
experiences or references that you may have regarding this phenomenon
(also known as "red Norway spruce" in Denmark).

There appears to be a reasonable amount of literature outlining the influence
of climate and site conditions (in particular exposure and moisture stress)
on this type of decline. However, I am particularly interested in information
on the following:

* the variation of susceptibility to Top Dying between different provenances
  and seed origins
* Have any breeding programmes been successful in creating a dieback resistant
  population of Norway spruce?
* the influence of other species (particularly broadleaves) when in mixture
  with Norway spruce.

Of course any information would be welcome.

Thanks in advance,
