Dear List members I am currently involved in a project investigating the Top Dying of Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) and I would appreciate any information, experiences or references that you may have regarding this phenomenon (also known as "red Norway spruce" in Denmark). There appears to be a reasonable amount of literature outlining the influence of climate and site conditions (in particular exposure and moisture stress) on this type of decline. However, I am particularly interested in information on the following: * the variation of susceptibility to Top Dying between different provenances and seed origins * Have any breeding programmes been successful in creating a dieback resistant population of Norway spruce? * the influence of other species (particularly broadleaves) when in mixture with Norway spruce. Of course any information would be welcome. Thanks in advance, Bill Stanley Coillte (The Irish Forestry Board) Research and Development Newtownmountkennedy Co.
