Vacancy Pre-announcement - Post Doc Position(s) The USDA Forest Service, Northeastern Forest Experiment Station will soon be recruiting to fill 1 or 2 post doctorate positions in the Forest Inventory and Monitoring program. The post doc(s) will work on a variety of analyses of forest inventory and forest health data, including: * Tree mortality in eastern forests * Integration of forest inventory and forest health data * Use of inventory data for non-traditional analyses * Ecosystem assessments in the middle atlantic region * State level Forest Inventory analytical reports Position(s) will be filled at the GS 11/12 level (starting salary S37K-44K depending on qualifications). They will be term appointments, not to exceed 2 years, and include full benefits. Position(s) will be located in the Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) unit in Radnor, PA (west of Philadelphia). Candidates for post doc positions need to have completed their degree. We will be looking for the following qualifications: 1. Advanced (graduate) level knowledge of statistical theory and analytical methods, with emphasis in sampling theory, general linear models, and estimation techniques. Knowledge of spatial statistics desired. 2. Advanced (graduate) level knowledge of at least two of the following areas: forest ecology, forest mensuration, forest entomology, forest pathology, silviculture. 3. Demonstrated writing skills, including the ability to write peer reviewed papers as well as general interest articles for a lay public. 4. Familiarity with SAS required. Familiarity with Oracle, Arc/Info, UNIX is desired. 5. Candidate must be task oriented, able to stay focused on completing specific projects. 6. Candidate must be able to work and interact with people from many other disciplines, integrating their knowledge into creative analyses of extensive databases.
