Dear collegues I was impressed with the account that Hisao Fuji of the Forestry and Forest Products Research Institute in Ibaraki, Japan gave to this list on 19 May. His posting clearly set out the thorough research that went into the problem of foliage discoloration and forest health decline. It looked as well for causal relationships. His posting is one of the best I have seen on this list on the issue of forest health. Good research is being conducted in Europe as well. I find it let's say amusing that the reaction from the USA is a reaction of "it will be frost damage", "most likely salt damage, winterburn". No scientific account like Hisoa Fuji. So what is going on in the USA? If industrialized nations in Europe and Asia get forest health problems why do the foresters in the USA do not see the decline in their backyard? Apart from people like gerry Hawkins. Regards from Sjef Lamers 209 Whitby Road Wakefield (Nelson) New Zealand Phone/Fax: ++643 541 8176 sjef@nelson.planet.org.nz
