Dear Richard and colleagues, Smartwood director Richard Donovan communicated to our office his concerns that "a fair amount of public discussion has taken place without copmplete or accurate information". Also, in same communication, Smartwood director communicates that the initial assessment did not result in certification. As flawed claims on certification present one of the subjects of such discussions it is perhaps of interest to the readership of this list for Rainforest Alliance to inform about their assessment on the accuracy of following claim of pre-certification of Flor y Fauna plantations in Costa Rica by Rainforest Alliance, and to clarify what is pre-certification: Treemail translates from files and fully disclaims [please check with original sources] following excerpts from press release issued under WWF (with Panda), OHRA and Flor y Fauna logo's and with date of issue June 1995: "TIMBER OF THE FUTURE" "After the first inspection by the Rainforest Alliance (mid-1993) the plantation was pre-certified.
