Mount Gambier is the centre of Australia's most developed softwood forestry region, the Green Triangle Region. The Green Triangle Region covers both sides of the South Australian/Victorian border and includes not only large tracts of pine plantations, and more recently eucalypt plantations but also the world renown Coonawarra wine growing district. Mount Gambier is also famous for its Blue Lake which changes colour each year to a brilliant blue in the spring and changes back to a blue-grey in the autumn. Mount Gambier is roughly 440 km from both Melbourne and Adelaide. It is serviced by two airlines. Ansett Airlines, the official carrier for the conference connects to Mount Gambier from both Melbourne and Adelaide with Kendall Airlines.
