\I hope the SAF will, at least, place before the public
\scientific information on the dangers of unlimited population expansion and
\the land-management options that will have to be faced.

I agree, David. Why should SAF make a statement like:

\resolution of this major domestic and global challenge. Therefore, the
\Society encourages efforts to place before the public scientific information
\on the dangers of unlimited population expansion and the land-management
\options that will have to be faced.

Instead of "encouraging efforts", SAF should *make the effort*,
i.e. establish a Task Force that will bring the best scientific
information to bear on the question of the natural resource
consequences of the increasing global population, and the
options for mitigating those consequences. If foresters are
to realistically meet the public's demands for stewardship of
the nation's forests, then foresters must tell the public
how their own behavior and lifestyles affect that task.
