FORESTS AND THE BIODIVERSITY CONVENTION:
PRELIMINARY RESULTS OF AN ONGOING
"DIALOGUE ON FOREST BIODIVERSITY"
In response to a general request for input by the Biodiversity
Convention (CBD) Secretariat, BIONET--in collaboration with
partners--has recently launched a participatory "Dialogue on
Forest Biodiversity". The primary objective is to help focus the
scope and process of the intergovernmental debate on forests
under the CBD. Building on recent decisions by the CBD
Parties, the "Dialogue" could begin to identify elements for a
possible program of action on forest biodiversity under the CBD.
In addition, the "Dialogue" is intended to help stimulate
constructive biodiversity inputs into the Intergovernmental Panel
on Forests (IPF) process.
This Dialogue is a four part process, involving: (1) a series of
informal brainstorming sessions; (2) an ongoing "electronic
brainstorming session"; (3) informal meetings and consultations;
and (4) a possible international workshop on the CBD and
forests later in the year.

draft or in the process more generally, please contact us at the
