word problem

Dear netters:

I hope you will like the following problem

PROBLEM FROM SOUTH's COLLECTION

A private landowner has a 15-year-old loblolly pine plantation and a
40-year-old loblolly pine plantation. She decides to harvest pulpwood from
both stands and will take the wood to the local mill (located 5 km away)
that buys wood for $80 per metric ton (wet; green; fresh weight). She
sells 1000 cubic meters of 15-year-old wood and 1000 cubic meters of
40-year-old wood. Wood is delivered to the mill the same day as harvest.

Using data in the table below, answer the following questions.

(1) Which age wood is worth more to this landowner? ______________________

(2) In total, how much additional $ does she get for this age wood?
________________

(3) Which age wood is worth more to the pulpmill? ______________________

(4) How much more (%) is this age wood worth to the pulpmill?

=========================================================================
The world population is expected to double by the year 2100.
Therefore the annual demand for wood for energy (etc.)
will increase and might double (to more than 7 billion m3/yr).
To provide plantation wood for people in the future,
support the planting of trees on pastureland.
Set a goal of converting 8 million ha of pastureland/yr for the next 55 years.
This would increase tree plantations to about 5% of the world's landbase.
