Dear Sir/Madam,

DOCUMENTATION CENTRE OF THE BIODIVERSITY UNIT,
JAWAHARLAL NEHRU CENTRE FOR ADVANCED SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

JNCASR, a sister organisation of Indian Institute of
Science, India's leading scientific research institute, focuses
on selected areas of topical significance. One of these is
biodiversity and the unit is engaged in laboratory studies on
microbial diversity, and field research programmes, in the
Western Ghats and the Himalaya.

The Biodiversity Unit is also working closely with the
Government of India's Ministry of Environment and Forests in
analysing a number of policy issues arising out of India's
accession to the Convention on Biological Diversity. In fact, I
serve as the Government of India nominee to the Subsidiary Body
on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice to the
Convention. In this context the Biodiversity Unit has established
a documentation centre, which already has the beginnings of an
excellent collection of documents pertaining to issues of
inventorying, monitoring, sustainable use, conservation and
benefit sharing. Facilities of the Biodiversity Unit are widely
used by a large number of visitors from all over India and
abroad; and the Unit has organized a series of workshops and
training programmes over the last three years.

I would be most grateful, therefore, if you would be so kind
as to send us a full set of relevant literature available with
your organisation, as well as keep us on the mailing list.
